Here is a story that illustrates how much Christmas has become all about gift giving. Misty Johnson stabbed her husband, Shawn Johnson with a kitchen knife, after an argument about him opening a Christmas gift early.
There was an accusation of Shawn also having an affair, but the initial argument started about the opening of the gift. Even though deep down Misty might have been angry that her husband might be having an affair, the very fact that she used the gift opening as an excuse to start the argument shows how important gift giving has become on Christmas.
I wrote an article on Associated Content a year ago about how Christmas has become more about the gifts than the real reason we’re supposed to celebrate the holiday. The title of the article is ”Where Has Christ Gone in Christmas”. Check it out and lets see if can’t get back to celebrating Christmas the way it’s supposed to be celebrated. And that says it all.
