Damages

There’s a new show on the FX channel called “Damages” It stars Glenn Close and Ted Danson. This, like most of the original series on FX is a raw hard-hitting show that pulls no punches and is always full of surprises.

The first show started out with a girl, who find out later is Ellen Parsons a young lawyer in Patty Hewes’s, (played by Glenn Close), law firm, coming out of an apartment building and walking down the street in a trenchcoat under which she is wearing lingerie and covered with blood. Ellen is taken into custody, but is in shock and won’t speak to the detectives.

The show then flashes back to about six months earlier showing how things lead up to the present events. We find out that Ellen’s fiancé has been killed and that she may or may not be the killer. We find out that Patty Hewes, who is sweet and kind at times is actually a sneaky, conniving, evil bitch, who will do anything to win a case or get her way.

Ted Danson plays Arthur Frobisher, a self-made billionaire who Patty is trying to get damages from for employees that Frobisher left out in the cold after selling his company up the river and dumping his stock for a bundle. It is questionable if Patty Hewes hired Ellen because of her talent or because she has a connection to a witness that might be able to bring Frobisher down. Strangely enough Patty Hewes seems more like the bad guy than Frobisher.

This is a great show. I really didn’t want to watch the show at first thinking “here’s another lawyer show, ho hum”. But my girlfriend wanted to watch it so we did and I was hooked from the very beginning. I am surprised at the dirty things Patty Hewes does to accomplish her goals. I mean she had a dog killed for heaven’s sake.

The show airs Tuesdays at 10:00 on the FX network. Give it a try, I think you’ll like it. And that says it all.
