This is something I’m thinking about doing as a weekly series. There’s always something crazy happening in the news. I’m watching the news this weekend and up come a story about a guy who killed his wife because he was sick of her being sick. This guy tossed his wife over the balcony of their apartment building. Now, just the wife being sick wasn’t all of it, the financial burden of her being sick had a lot to do with it also.
Get this, the guy, Stanley Reimer, said he was having extreme financial difficulties and could not take care of his wife, Criste Reimer, so he kissed her, picked her up and threw her off of their fourth-floor balcony. The couple had no health insurance and the medical bills ranged from $700 to $800 per week.
Criste had been sick for several years with neurological problems and uterine cancer. Criste was also partly blind.
Maybe there was more to Stanley Reimer doing what he did. Maybe his wife was suffering and part of his reasoning was to put her out of her misery, I don’t know. I do know that if you are sick with no insurance and the bills are paling up, you better make sure you are with someone that really cares and loves you. And that says it all.
